The proper design of extraction hoods is critical to the success and effective control of any fume collection or dry material handling dust collection system. It is a key factor in ensuring that capture velocity and the creation of air flow past a fume / dust source is sufficient to remove the fume / dust from the process.
Ineffective or poorly designed hoods has a major impact on the efficiency of any extraction / collection system and is the primary design factor that needs to be considered and proper consultation with the client, to ensure that as much containment is achieved without servely hindering the manufacturing / handling process.
AFS design engineers review the process and provide a hood design considering:
- Enclosure containment to minimise the required exhaust volume and system size.
- Design of the hood shape and location / orientation of openings.
- Flow of air within the capture zone and effect of cross drafts, etc
- Capture velocities, etc.
